Illicit boozcans and distilleries helped a lot of Vancouver families get through the Great Depression. According to some accounts, practically every house on Union Street was selling homebrew. As well, supplying the illegal American market until prohibition was repealed in 1933 was a big industry for Canadians. (Vancouver Sun)
